Background
One-carbon (1C) metabolism couples folate cycling, methionine/SAM chemistry, and serine/glycine interconversion. Its outputs — methyl donors, purine/pyrimidine precursors, glutathione — gate synaptic plasticity, myelination, and DNA/histone methylation in neurons and glia, linking metabolic state to neuroplastic capacity.
