IL-23
Interleukin-23, a heterodimeric cytokine involved in chronic inflammation. Discussed at Session I in relation to the IL-17 pathway.
Key Finding from Session I
Back-translation from bimekizumab-treated psoriasis patients revealed IL-23 as an upstream regulator of IL-17A/F in a way that complicates the textbook IL-23 → IL-17 “waterfall” model of chronic inflammation. The relationship may be more bidirectional or context-dependent than previously appreciated.
Drugs Targeting IL-23
- Icotrokinra (Icotide) — oral cyclic peptide blocking IL-23 receptor (discussed in Session VII)
Cross-References
- IL-17 pathway — downstream target with more complex upstream regulation than the waterfall model suggests
